With last year’s rainy season giving less rainfall than in an average year, the whole of Thailand has been facing a water shortage which means declining water levels at reservoirs in Rayong Province, an oil refining and petrochemical hub for the country. Various industrial parks and factories have been operating under a 10% restriction on water supply. While this reduction does not appear to have had a major impact in terms of causing production cuts, the water shortage has meant that the water available is lower quality. The result is that the amount of actually usable water is being reduced by more than 10% – an issue that is driving some companies into a corner.
